Club Champion – Men’s Section Club Championship

The Men’s Section Club Championships take place over 2 days. The Scratch Club Champion is the player with the lowest gross score after the 2 rounds and the Handicap Club Champion is the player with the lowest nett score after the 2 rounds. This is the pinnacle of the golfing year for the Men’s Section membership. Sunday’s tee times are drawn in reverse order to the results on Saturday, so a late start is only guaranteed if you play well. A certain Ryder Cup hero – Ian Poulter has his name engraved as a previous Scratch winner. Qualification for this event is that players must be a registered member of the Men’s Section and have played in at least 6 qualifiers in the previous 12 months.

Ron Coleman Cup – Pairs Major

The Ron Coleman Cup is a Men’s Section Pairs competition and classed as one of the Majors and requires each participant to have played in at least 6 qualifying competitions in the previous 12 months. Ron was the Men’s Section Captain in 1996

Denis Flynn Memorial¬† –¬† Singles

The Denis Flynn Memorial Trophy is a stableford competition and is in addition to the normal monthly medal and trophy competitions and is open to all Men’s Section members who have played in a minimum of 6 qualifying competitions in the previous 12 months. This competition is also open to members of the Ladies Section. Denis was a long standing employee at Chesfield Downs and this competition is in honour of this relationship with the Men’s section.

KLM Cup Winners & Consolation Cups – The Year End Finale to the Summer Season

The KLM Cup Winners and Consolation Cups are played at the end of October to signify the end of the summer season. All previous winners of monthly and mid-week medals and trophies and the winners of Majors are entered into the KLM Cup Winners competition and all other competitors are entered into the Consolation Cup. Entry is unlimited, although you need to have played in at least 6 qualifying competitions in the previous 12 months to be entitled to win the event. The event is a shotgun start, with the Trophy and Prize giving presentation for all events that year taking place after the round. The Mens Section AGM then takes place in the conservatory. KLM are the trophy providers to the Men’s Section and these trophies were donated by KLM as part of that relationship.
