Order of Merits – Summer Season

Throughout the summer, the Men’s Section compete in monthly medal and monthly trophy competitions. The results of these competitions culminate in an order of merit, based on performances in each competition.

There are 3 order of merits in the summer season.

  • The Weekend Order of Merit
  • The Midweek Order of Merit
  • The Scratch Order of Merit

Ken Bird Winter League

The Ken Bird Weekend Winter league was introduced to keep competitions running throughout the winter months. Unlike the summer season, where the competitions are Medal/Trophy and only limited to the Men’s Section members, the winter league is more about team play. Whilst there will still be the occasional singles competition at the weekend, (to allow people to increase their number of qualifying competitions and keep their handicap on track), the bulk of the weekend winter league competitions are played in pairs or teams of 2 and 4. The competitions are also open to the members of the Ladies section in order to allow the club to become more integrated and social. The winter league runs from November to March each year.

The Midweek Winter league is run in exactly the same way as the Summer midweek league and these are still played as handicap qualifying competitions – Medal and Trophy.

Ken Bird was the Men’s Section Captain in 2007 and previously the Senior Section’s Captain in 2006. Ken was a key driver in the club when it came to Rules and Competitions, unfortunately he sadly passed away several years ago. A tree is planted on the right hand side of the 16th hole towards the green in honour of Ken, who is missed by many.

50+ Society and 18-49 Society

The 50 plus (age) was introduced several years ago to allow players over that age bracket to compete with each other in a monthly eclectic competition with order of merit winners for both the Scratch and Nett performance.  Over 70 members have joined the 50+ in recent years.  In 2019 the decision was made to introduce the 18-49 to allow members in that age bracket to also have a competition as well.  There are currently over 25 members playing in this competition.  Both 50+ and 18-49 have a league competition in the Summer and the Winter.  A separate entry payment of £10 is required to enter these competitions, with prizes for Front 9, Back 9 and Overall in each competition.
