Captains Blog 19th July

Good afternoon Boys,

It’s been a very busy week! On Tuesday Rich and I met with Barry to discuss the competition diary. Then we had the Club Committee meeting (a real one not on Zoom how odd)! On Thursday the Men’s Section Committee met on Zoom (back to normality)!

This weekend a strong field of 80 mens’ section members turned out for the prestigious Glen Russell Trophy. Congratulations to Tony Routledge with a winning 40 points (gross 73 nett 67). Nice knock Tony just pipping Martin Himsworth into 2nd on count back with an equally impressive 40 points; just a whisker away in 3rd place was Chris McNicol with a solid 39 points. Well played boys!

Look out for round 2 results of the 50+ and Club 18-49, Dave and Steve will be sending out shortly!

We will all have the chance to mix and mingle with all of our old friends “at a Social Distance of course” whom we haven’t had the chance to catch with over the last three months and an opportunity to meet all the new members (40!) that have joined Chesfield Downs during lockdown.

Some other changes that will be actioned as of this weekend; 4 balls from 7am Saturday and Sunday. From Monday 27th July the booking window will also change from 4 days to 7 days and 8 days for competitions

Please book in tomorrow (extra days booking window for comps) for the Steve Batchelor Trophy on Saturday 25th July.

Rich will be doing a course walk on Wednesday with Lee, head greenkeeper, Barry, Margaret, Club Captain, Rogie, Ladies Captain and Andy, Senior Captain to highlight any areas to be marked as GUR.

I would also like you to give me some feedback on the vouchers for the Winter season, good or bad, I would like to know your thoughts as the committee need to make a decision on vouchers for the coming season.

The Mens’ section committee have also voted in favour of three qualifiers as opposed to the normal 6. We have had such a limited competition season so far, so to enter the forthcoming competitions this with be added as a temporary change to the “rules of competition”.

We also voted in favour of the next round of the 50+ and Club 18-49 (17th-23rd August) becoming qualifiers to help get new members up to the 3 qualifiers they need before competitions start.

Ryder Cup Saturday/Sunday 15/16th August – Mens’ Section v The Goodfellas,

There will be no selection criteria for the men’s section team it will all be Captain’s picks – I just need to have one treat this year!

I would like to take this opportunity to ‘Thank You’ all for your continued support. I know it’s been a bumpy road over the last few months but with the support of Barry, The Club Company and my committee I believe we are back to what we all feel is most important to us.  (I’m aware we are not currently able to book 14 days in advance) The strength of feeling and passion for the club and our happy place has really come across since lockdown and I am delighted with our latest position.

Last but not least, I hope you will all support me and the committee in welcoming all the new members to the mens’ section over the coming weeks.

Look forward to seeing you all on Saturday.
